CJP Effect: Dharmendra Pradhan's Exit Fuels 'E20 Janta Party's' Anti-Ethanol Campaign Published By, Last Updated: July 27, 2026, 12:12 IST It is gaining support amid the call by Delhi Taxi and Tourist Transporters and Tour Operators announcing protest march to Parliament on August 4, against E20 petrol. Many vehicle owners, particularly those holding older, non-compliant models manufactured before the mandatory April 2023 material standards, fear that increased ethanol content could erode fuel lines and reduce mileage. (Representational image/ANI) The success of the month-long Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest appears to have sparked a new wave of issue-based online mobilisation. Just a day after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on July 25 following sustained demonstrations led by the student-backed movement, a new social media campaign calling itself the E20 Janta Party has emerged, demanding that consumers be given the option of buying 100 per cent petrol alongside ethanol-blended fuel. The new campaign has borrowed heavily from the language, branding and protest style that made the CJP a nationwide phenomenon over the past two months. Supporters are using social media to call for a “CJP-style" movement against India’s ethanol blending programme, arguing that motorists should have the freedom to choose conventional petrol instead of E20 fuel. The campaign has also demanded the resignation of the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister over the government’s ethanol policy. It is gaining support amid the call by Delhi Taxi and Tourist Transporters and Tour Operators announcing protest march to Parliament on August 4, against E20 petrol.
What Is The E20 Janta Party Demanding? Unlike the CJP, which focused on education reforms, the E20 Janta Party is centred on India’s fuel policy. The group is not demanding an end to ethanol blending altogether. Instead, it wants petrol pumps to provide consumers with a choice between E20 petrol and conventional 100 per cent petrol. Supporters argue that motorists should have the freedom to decide which fuel they use rather than having ethanol-blended fuel become the default option. The campaign has adopted slogans, memes and visual branding reminiscent of the Cockroach Janta Party, reinforcing comparisons between the two movements. Who Is Behind The E20 Janta Party? Unlike the Cockroach Janta Party, whose public face is Abhijeet Dipke, no individual or organisation has officially identified itself as the founder or leader of the E20 Janta Party. Reports indicate that the campaign currently appears to be an online collective rather than a structured organisation. Its social media presence has expanded rapidly over the past few days, but those operating the campaign have not publicly disclosed their identities. Reports also suggest that the X account now functioning as the E20 Janta Party previously operated under a different name before being rebranded shortly after the CJP’s protest concluded. As of now, there is no officially recognised leader comparable to Dipke. Why Has Ethanol Blending Become A Talking Point? The campaign comes at a time when India has significantly expanded its ethanol blending programme.
