The Uttar Pradesh government has stepped up preparations for the upcoming Shravan month Kanwar Yatra, announcing additional transport services and round-the-clock monitoring to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage. The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) will operate extra buses on major Kanwar routes, including Haridwar, to facilitate the movement of devotees, beginning July 30. A 24x7 control room will also be established to monitor the pilgrimage and coordinate with various departments, with the government aiming to provide safe, seamless and improved transport facilities for Kanwariyas. Chairing a high-level meeting with senior bureaucrats, police commissioners, district magistrates and senior police officers, CM Adityanath instructed departments to ensure robust arrangements for law and order, traffic management, health services, sanitation, food safety and public amenities. He also directed that the Kanwar Yatra management model developed by the Meerut Zone be shared with all police zones to ensure uniform arrangements across the state. Noting that the annual pilgrimage now draws lakhs of devotees from across Uttar Pradesh, he asked district administrations to maintain regular coordination with Kanwar associations, verify camp operators in advance and work closely with authorities in Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and Uttarakhand to ensure compliance with prescribed norms.
The Uttar Pradesh government also instructed officials to repair damaged roads along Kanwar routes, ensure adequate lighting, drinking water, toilets and cleanliness and keep medical camps fully stocked with essential medicines, including anti-venom and anti-rabies injections. He directed that changing rooms for women be set up at major ghats and that regular public announcements, accompanied by devotional music, be made along pilgrimage routes. To strengthen security, the chief minister ordered enhanced police patrolling, CCTV coverage and drone surveillance at sensitive locations. He also directed officials to closely monitor social media, counter fake information promptly and take strict action against those attempting to spread rumours or disturb communal harmony.
