(IANS) A Special Investigation Team (SIT) officer, Abhishek Patel, has been suspended after a video allegedly showed him firing rounds from an AK-47 rifle during a protest in Bihar’s Siwan district. The action comes amid tensions over the ongoing student protests linked to the alleged NEET paper leak issue. According to reports, Patel was part of the SIT deployed during the protest in Siwan, where clashes broke out between police and demonstrators during a Bihar bandh called over the NEET controversy. A video purportedly showing him firing from an AK-47 went viral, following which authorities took action and suspended him. A probe was initiated to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Three FIRs Filed Following the violence, police filed three FIRs in connection with the incident. Around 100 people have been named as accused, while cases have also been registered against nearly 200 unidentified individuals. Authorities have started conducting raids to trace and arrest those allegedly involved in the violence. Reports said around 25 accused persons were sent to jail after undergoing medical examinations at Sadar Hospital in Siwan. Three Protesters Injured The three protesters injured in the violence and currently undergoing treatment at Jayprabha Medanta Hospital in Patna are reported to be in stable condition. One of the injured is 15-year-old Md Arif, whose family said he works at a local shop. According to his relatives, Arif was returning home after shutting the shop during the bandh when a bullet hit him in the neck amid the unrest. Doctors performed surgery and successfully removed the bullet. His condition is now stated to be stable. Tejashwi Yadav Demanded Action Bihar Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav demanded action against the officials responsible for the incident and shared a video on X, claiming that police personnel opened fire at protesting students.
