Bengal Family's 12-Year Wait For Electricity Ends 12 Days After Complaint To CM Suvendu Published By, Last Updated: July 27, 2026, 09:55 IST Krishna Bauri said that he had submitted multiple applications for an electricity connection over the years, but the issue remained unresolved. A Purulia family, without power for 12 years due to a land dispute, received an electricity connection within 12 days after complaining at CM Suvendu Adhikari's Janata Darbar. A family in West Bengal’s Purulia district that had lived without electricity for nearly 12 years received a power connection within 12 days of filing a complaint at Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s Janata Darbar. Krishna Bauri, a bicycle mechanic from Laulada village under Puncha Police Station, said repeated attempts to secure an electricity connection over the past decade failed due to a land dispute with neighbouring residents, who allegedly obstructed the installation.
Krishna Bauri said that he had submitted multiple applications for an electricity connection over the years, but the issue remained unresolved. On July 13, his wife Kalpana Bauri and their daughter travelled to Kolkata to attend the Chief Minister’s Janata Darbar, where they registered their grievance. Officials accepted the complaint and assured them that it would be addressed on priority. Following the complaint, the Janata Darbar directed the local administration to examine the matter. Officials from the Puncha police, block administration and the electricity department jointly took up the case. Administrative officials said both parties involved in the land dispute were called for a hearing on Thursday. After reviewing the matter, the authorities decided to provide the Bauri family with an electricity connection.
The following day, electricity department officials, accompanied by police personnel, installed the connection at the family’s home, ending more than a decade without power. Krishna Bauri said the lack of electricity had severely affected the family’s daily life and his son’s education. “We were in a lot of hardship. My son could not continue his studies after appearing for the Madhyamik examination because there was no electricity at our home," he said. Expressing gratitude after the connection was installed, Krishna Bauri thanked the administration, the electricity department and Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for resolving the family’s long-pending grievance.
