The Seattle Police Department (SPD) confirmed the shooting in a statement, saying, “Police are investigating a shooting.

However, authorities were yet to confirm whether that individual was connected to the shooting. According to local media, the shooting occurred at or near the Bite of Seattle festival, one of the city’s largest annual food events, held at Seattle Centre near the Space Needle. Police, firefighters and multiple emergency medical crews rushed to the scene shortly after reports of gunfire emerged. Authorities also evacuated visitors from parts of the Seattle Centre complex as officers secured the area. Witnesses told KOMO News they heard multiple gunshots before people began running for safety.

A reporter at the scene also said an officer indicated that the suspected shooter was still outstanding at the time, although police had not officially confirmed the suspect’s status.
