Punjab Police have foiled a major cross-border terror conspiracy by busting an alleged Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI)-backed terror module linked to the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), officials said on Sunday. The operation was carried out jointly by the Counterintelligence unit in Jalandhar and the Jalandhar Rural Police. Investigators suspect the module was planning a major terror attack in Punjab, and the timely operation helped avert a potentially devastating incident.
Officials said the module was allegedly operating under the directions of Pakistan's ISI and BKI operatives based outside India. Police believe the network was part of a larger cross-border conspiracy aimed at disturbing peace and law and order in the state. Following the arrest, a case has been registered at Patara Police Station in Jalandhar Rural under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Explosive Substances Act and the Arms Act. POLICE LAUNCHES DETAIL INVESTIGATION Police have launched a detailed investigation to uncover the entire terror network. Investigators are questioning the accused to identify the masterminds behind the conspiracy, trace the foreign handlers directing the module and determine whether any local associates provided logistical or financial support.
Officials said the probe is also focused on establishing how the explosive device reached the accused and whether additional operatives are involved in the plot. Punjab Police said every aspect of the case is being investigated and further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.
