Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan on Sunday visited the Devalokam Catholicate Aramana, the headquarters of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, in Kottayam. Arriving at the Church headquarters around 7 p.m., the Chief Minister was accorded a formal reception by Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, head of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church and other senior prelates.
Satheesan offered floral tributes at the tombs of former heads of the Church before holding a brief meeting with the Catholicos. It was Mr. Satheesan’s first visit to the Church headquarters after assuming office as Chief Minister. He was accompanied by legislators Chandy Oommen, Reji Cherian, and Abin Varkey.
Episcopal Synod secretary Yuhanon Mar Chrysostomos, Kottayam Diocesan Metropolitan Yuhanon Mar Diascoros, clergy trustee Fr. Thomas Varghese Amayil and other Church functionaries were present at the meeting. During the interaction, the Catholicos congratulated Mr. Satheesan on assuming office and assured him of the Church’s full support for the government’s welfare initiatives.
The Chief Minister, who visited headquarters at the Church’s invitation, spent about an hour there.
