47 lawyers complete 40-hour mediation training in Mandya

A five-day, 40-hour mediation training programme for advocates concluded at the Mediation Centre in Mandya on Sunday, with Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), J.N. Subrahmanya, presiding over the valedictory ceremony. The programme was jointly organised by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, Bengaluru, the District Legal Services Authority, Mandya, the Mandya Bar Association and the Karnataka Mediation Centre, Bengaluru. Addressing the gathering, Justice Subrahmanya urged litigants to make use of mediation and the facilities available at mediation centres, stating that settlements reached through mediation are legally valid and binding.
He said mediation provides an effective mechanism for resolving family disputes, civil suits, cheque bounce cases and several other categories of litigation. Congratulating the newly trained mediators, he advised them to understand the concerns and interests of both parties before facilitating amicable settlements. Senior advocate of the High Court and mediation trainer Geetha Devi M. Papanna said about 50 advocates from Mandya, Ramanagara and Hassan districts participated in the programme. Appreciating their enthusiasm and cooperation throughout the workshop, she encouraged them to continue rendering mediation services.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, senior advocate M. Guruprasad said the 40-hour training had provided valuable insights into mediation laws, dispute resolution techniques and the importance of understanding the issues faced by litigants. He said the objective of mediation is to resolve disputes quickly and amicably without causing hardship to either party, and thanked the trainers for equipping the participants with practical skills. Advocates, including Nagaraju, and newly trained mediators from Ramanagara and Hassan districts also shared their experiences during the programme.
Member Secretary of the DLSA and Senior Civil Judge M. Anand congratulated the participants and urged them to use their newly acquired skills to facilitate speedy disposal of disputes through mediation centres, thereby benefiting litigants. Mediation trainers Beena Devaraj and Anuradha S.R. were also present. A total of 47 newly trained mediators attended the valedictory programme.
