The resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan from the post of Union Education Minister signals the beginning of the end of the Modi era, said M.B. Patil, Minister of Large and Medium Scale Industries, in Vijayapura on Sunday (July 26). Pradhan did not resign immediately after the NEET examination irregularities, but only after a prolonged protest over the issue by students, he noted. The protest, which created a new wave of awareness across the country, seems to have woken up Prime Minister Narendra Modi from his slumber, Mr. Patil told reporters.

“First, the Union government played with the future of children for 47 days by failing to prevent the irregularities, and later, it failed to fulfil the demands of the protesters. Due to this, about 21 children lost their lives. Not only that, an estimated 1.5 lakh students were deprived of the NEET exam due to mental stress. The youth realised the Union government’s attitude towards them and the NEET exam issue,” the Minister said. He added that youth from all over the country, including Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians and others, joined the protest.

“Some children of BJP leaders also participated in the struggle. After all that, the Prime Minister was forced to accept the resignation of Mr. Pradhan under pressure from the Cockroach Janta Party and Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyank Kharge, and others,’’ he further said. “Before coming to power, Mr. Modi promised ‘Achche Din’ for the country. They are yet to come. He promised to reduce the prices of petrol, diesel and essential commodities. He had said that the value of the rupee against the dollar will improve.

However, people have come to know that all these are empty promises. There are indications that several problems related to mixing of ethanol with petrol will arise in the future. It is clear that Mr. Modi has taken the country on a downward spiral. Now, it seems that even Mr. Modi has realised that his lies will not work in the future,’’ Mr Patil said.
