Youths protesting under the banner of the Berozgar Sanyukt Morcha Punjab clashed with police in Sangrur on Sunday (July 26, 2026) while attempting to march towards the residence of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, officials said. Police stopped the march by erecting barricades on the route leading to the Chief Minister's residence. A scuffle broke out when the protesters tried to move past the barricades, resulting in a tense situation. Some protesters sustained minor injuries during the jostling, while a few participants, including women, reportedly fainted at the protest site.
The protesters raised slogans against the Punjab government, alleging that despite months of agitation, their employment-related demands had not been addressed. Leaders of the Berozgar Sanyukt Morcha said they would continue their protest until the government provided a permanent solution to their demands. They also warned of intensifying their statewide agitation if no action was taken.
Police remained deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
