The Mysuru district units of AIDSO, AIDYO, AIMSS and AIUTUC on Sunday welcomed the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, describing it as a victory for the nationwide student movement, while asserting that their agitation would continue until the Testing Agency (NTA) is abolished and public education is protected.
The organisations held a victory programme near Chikka Gadiyara in Mysuru on Sunday evening. Addressing the gathering, AIDYO district president Sunil congratulated students, youth and the public for what he termed a historic victory achieved through sustained protests. He claimed the movement had demonstrated that a united student and youth community could compel even an âauthoritarian governmentâ to respond to public pressure.
AIMSS vice-president Seema said the agitation had emerged from widespread anger over alleged irregularities in the education system and rising unemployment. AIDSO district vice-president Swati said the resignation of the Union Education Minister would not by
itself resolve the issues confronting students. She maintained that the movement would continue until the commercialisation of education is curbed, the NTA is abolished, those responsible for question paper leaks are punished and public education is safeguarded.
