(Image: AFP) Amid an ongoing investigation into the deadly attack near Berlin’s Pride parade, Germany’s Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt suggested that the incident was an “Islamist terror attack." Dobrindt said investigators believe the attack was motivated by Islamist ideology.
“Everything we see here indicates that this was an Islamist terror attack," Dobrindt told reporters at the scene, AFP reported. He also confirmed that the number of injured had risen to 29, while one woman was killed in the attack. Suspect Wanted To Join Islamic State? German media have identified the prime suspect in the deadly attack as a 21-year-old German citizen, Abdul B., who allegedly supports the Islamic State (IS) group. According to Bild and Spiegel, he travelled to the Middle East last year in a failed attempt to join IS and was later convicted in Germany of preparing a serious act of subversive violence, receiving a suspended sentence.
Reports also said police recently investigated him after he allegedly posted a photo with a weapon online, but only a toy replica was found.
