Delhi Police Awaits Nod To Withdraw FIR Against NEET Protestors A day after the Centre assured that all cases against NEET-UG paper leak protesters would be withdrawn, Delhi Police on Sunday said it is awaiting official directions from the competent authority before initiating the process of closing the FIRs registered during the protests. No action will be taken until formal communication and detailed guidelines are received from the Centre.
A total of 15 FIRs were registered at various police stations in New Delhi district in connection with the July 20 violence and other incidents linked to the agitation. The development comes a day after Union Minister JP Nadda, along with Union Minister Jitendra Singh, held the third round of talks with representatives of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which has been spearheading the protests over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak. Following the meeting, Nadda announced that the government had agreed that no action would be taken against the protesters, no new FIRs would be registered, and any FIRs already filed would be withdrawn, with a written assurance to be provided by Tuesday.
He also said copies of the withdrawn FIRs would be made available to the protesters. The centre also assured that families of those who allegedly died by suicide following the NEET-UG paper leak would receive the maximum possible compensation under the applicable rules and regulations. On the CJP’s five-point charter seeking broader examination reforms, Nadda said the government would examine the proposals in detail and continue discussions with the delegation. Following the government’s assurances, CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das announced the withdrawal of the 49-day-long agitation in “good faith", expressing hope that the commitments made by the Centre would be implemented within the promised timeline.
