According to officials, the bus was travelling on the Thrissur–Kozhikode route when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle near Kailash Auditorium at around 11 am. Before overturning, the bus reportedly struck an autorickshaw and then landed on a car that had already been involved in an earlier accident.
Three of the injured are said to be in critical condition. Police, fire and rescue services personnel, along with local residents, rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Several passengers trapped inside the mangled bus were pulled out after rescuers cut open parts of the vehicle. The injured were shifted to hospitals in Kuttippuram, Valanchery and Kottakkal for treatment. CCTV Captures Horrific Moment The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed near the accident site. The footage shows the private bus travelling at speed before suddenly veering out of control on the rain-soaked road. The vehicle then skids for more than 25 metres, crashes into the road divider on the service lane and overturns violently. As the bus flips onto its side, debris is seen flying across the road while thick smoke and dust rise from the crash site.
The footage also shows the bus crushing an autorickshaw before coming to a halt on top of a car involved in an earlier accident. Investigation Underway Kerala Transport Minister CP John confirmed the accident and said preliminary information suggested that the bus may have been travelling at a high speed. “One person was killed and several others injured after a private limited-stop bus overturned on Highway 66 at Kuttippuram in Malappuram district on Sunday morning. The accident occurred at around 11 a.m. near Kailash Auditorium in Kuttippuram. The bus, named ‘Defender’, was operating a limited-stop service from Kozhikode to Thrissur when it met with the accident. According to preliminary information, the bus was travelling at high speed. An investigation has been launched into the incident," the minister said. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
