In an exclusive interview with India Today, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy explained his proposal to lower the minimum age for contesting Assembly and Lok Sabha elections from 25 to 21 years. Reddy stated, "I have seen German, Great Britain, Singapore, many countries," noting that developed nations have adopted similar age policies to empower youth.
He highlighted that 21 is already the eligible age for IAS, IPS, Mayor, and Zilla Parishad positions. Reddy emphasized that bringing youth into the formal political system will translate young energy into national progress, enabling them to raise and resolve issues directly inside Parliament and Assemblies rather than protesting on the streets.
