Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced that he will not contest the 2028 Assembly elections, hinting at retirement from politics. The veteran Congress leader, who served as chief minister following the party's 2023 election victory in Karnataka alongside DK Shivakumar, was recently offered alternate roles by the party leadership. According to sources, Siddaramaiah rejected offers including a Rajya Sabha seat and a central AICC position focused on leading the OBC outreach for the Lok Sabha elections, choosing instead to remain in Karnataka.
Although Siddaramaiah had previously described the 2013, 2018, and 2023 elections as his final contests before winning office, his latest declaration following his exit from the chief minister's post indicates a decisive step toward retiring from active electoral politics. The announcement marks a major political shift for the Congress party in Karnataka, ending speculation regarding his future role in national or state politics.
