Rapid Read Nithyanand had completed his Master’s degree in Information Systems from Indiana Tech in 2024. A 26-year-old man from Telangana died in the United States after suffering severe injuries in a road accident and developing a rare brain-related complication during treatment. Nithyanand Reddy Gannu, also known as Nandhu, a native of Nirmal district in Telangana, was injured in a serious accident in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on July 18.
He later died on July 22 while undergoing treatment, according to a GoFundMe page created by his family and friends. Nithyanand had completed his Master’s degree in Information Systems from Indiana Tech in 2024. According to the fundraising campaign, he suffered multiple injuries in the accident, including a severe fracture that required emergency surgery. While his family hoped the surgery would mark the beginning of his recovery, he developed a rare and life-threatening condition called cerebral fat embolism, the campaign organisers said. “In this condition, fat droplets from a fractured bone travel through the bloodstream and affect the brain, causing multiple clots," the organisers wrote on the GoFundMe page.
Despite the efforts of doctors and the support of family and friends, Nithyanand could not be saved. “Countless prayers, love, and support from everyone" could not change the outcome, the campaign said. The GoFundMe fundraiser was launched to help the family manage expenses not covered by health insurance, including ICU and hospital costs, as well as the expenses involved in bringing his mortal remains back to India. The campaign had raised more than $67,000 (around ₹64.7 lakh) by 8.30 am IST on Sunday, July 26. Friends and family described Nithyanand as a hardworking young professional whose life was cut short unexpectedly. The family is now seeking support to complete the repatriation process and handle the financial burden following the tragedy.
