(File/PTI) BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya has claimed that Dharmendra Pradhan had offered to resign on the first day of the student protests over the NEET paper leak controversy, a day after he stepped down as Union Education Minister. Vijayvargiya, who is a minister in the Madhya Pradesh government, said he had known Pradhan since their student politics days and praised him for his honesty and dedication.
“From the very first day of the movement, he told the party chief, ‘If you feel that I should resign, I would.’ The party chief refused. But when circumstances became such that the party decided he should resign, he did so in a split second," he told reporters in Indore. Vijayvargiya Praises Pradhan’s Decision Calling it a mark of a dedicated party worker, Vijayvargiya said Pradhan’s decision reflected his commitment. “This is the hallmark of a good party worker," he said. Pradhan resigned after nationwide student protests over the NEET paper leak controversy, including month-long demonstrations at Jantar Mantar led by the satirical political movement Cockroach Janta Party.
Pradhan had said that his decision to step down was aimed at preventing “anti-national forces" from taking advantage of the situation. Vijayvargiya Targets Opposition Vijayvargiya also claimed that Pradhan’s resignation had prevented attempts by “foreign forces" to destabilise India by spreading violence, similar to incidents in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. “I congratulate him for what he has done," he added. The Madhya Pradesh minister also accused the Opposition of trying to use the CJP protests for political gains. “The students launched the agitation, and the Congress merely stood behind them. After the West Bengal assembly election, the Opposition became completely demoralised and, in that state of despair, found a ray of hope in the CJP," he said.
