The Tamil Nadu government has extended the tenure of the Seventh State Finance Commission by four months, until December 31, 2026. The Commission’s tenure was originally scheduled to expire on August 31, 2026.
The Seventh State Finance Commission, chaired by retired IAS officer K. Allaudin, was constituted in May 2025 to study the financial position of village panchayats, panchayat union councils, district panchayats, town panchayats, municipalities and municipal corporations, and make appropriate recommendations on the distribution of funds to be provided by the State government.
The Commission was originally required to submit its report by August 31, 2026, covering the five-year period commencing from April 1, 2027. Following the extension,
the Commission may now submit its report by December 31, 2026.
