‘Ready To Form Alliance’: Owaisi Reaches Out To Akhilesh, BJP Says 'Friend Request' Sent Published By, Last Updated: July 26, 2026, 11:25 IST Owaisi has appealed to SP chief Akhilesh Yadav to initiate discussions, saying that the time for talks is now and warning against waiting until after the elections. Rapid Read SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi (PTI) AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has expressed willingness to join hands with the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, where the upcoming elections are being viewed as a crucial contest ahead of the parliamentary polls. Owaisi has appealed to SP chief Akhilesh Yadav to initiate discussions, saying that the time for talks is now and warning against waiting until after the elections. “The Majlis does not want the BJP to form the government again in Uttar Pradesh.
I am ready to join hands. I am ready to form an alliance. Today is the time to talk. Don’t cry later after the elections are over," he said at an event in Moradabad. Owaisi Says AIMIM’s Fight Is For Equality Owaisi said the AIMIM does not want to contest against the Samajwadi Party if it could result in division of votes. He said instead of remaining rivals, both parties could work together. “You say that Owaisi contesting would harm us. I’m ready to fight with you," he said. The AIMIM chief also reiterated that his party’s fight was not against any religion. “Our fight is for our honour and justice. We don’t want to sit on a mat. We want equality. If Akhilesh sits in front of that chair, then Owaisi will sit cross-legged in front of that chair and talk about rights and justice," asserted the AIMIM MP from Hyderabad.
BJP Targets Possible Alliance The BJP criticised Owaisi’s remarks, calling the possible alliance an example of “vote bank politics". BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala took a dig at the proposal and said Owaisi and Yadav were now moving from competition to collaboration. “Akhilesh Yadav and Owaisi compete in appeasement. Today they are leaving aside the ‘kaun banega bada bhaijaan’ (who will be the bigger appeaser) competition and saying let’s do ‘bhaijaan’ collaboration. Therefore, Owaisi is sending a friend request to Akhilesh ji," said Poonawala. He also described Owaisi and Yadav as two sides of the same coin. The Samajwadi Party is currently the largest opposition party in Uttar Pradesh and is set to challenge the BJP government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the 2027 state elections.
