A day after the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) ended its 37-day agitation at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, its founder Abhijeet Dipke shared a video message reflecting on the protest and thanking supporters. The CJP called off the protest after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned and the Centre agreed to several of the group’s demands, including assurances that no action would be taken against protesters.
In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), the 30-year-old said he was finally able to rest after weeks of continuous activity. “I could go to sleep and wake up in my bedroom without thinking about what to do next or what will happen till evening," he said, adding that the past 37 days had been “really, really difficult." Abhijeet Dipke, however, said the end of the protest did not mark the end of the movement. The Cockroach Janata Party has a long way to go," he said. The protest at Jantar Mantar drew thousands of students and young supporters, who demanded accountability over the alleged paper leak and called for Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.
Following multiple rounds of talks with the Centre, Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on Friday and the CJP announced the withdrawal of its agitation, saying it was doing so “in good faith" with the expectation that the agreed commitments would be implemented. In his message, Abhijeet Dipke thanked those who participated in the protest, as well as those who criticised the movement. He said criticism helped improve the campaign by raising legitimate questions. Abhijeet Dipke also revealed that he had been suffering from typhoid and a fever during the final days of the protest, which prevented him from personally thanking supporters at Jantar Mantar after the agitation ended. “All the people who were waiting for Jantar Mantar for 37 days, I want to thank each and every one of you. And I want to tell you that I really, really, really appreciate what you did for this country," he said.
