The crash occurred on Saturday in the municipality of Ganderkesee, near Oldenburg in Lower Saxony. Two men were killed after a small private aircraft crashed head-on into the roof of a house in northwestern Germany, destroying the plane’s cockpit and scattering debris across a residential property. The crash occurred on Saturday in the municipality of Ganderkesee, near Oldenburg in Lower Saxony.
The light aircraft, identified as a Tecnam P2010 TDI (registration D-EYJK), plunged into the pitched roof of a home just minutes after taking off. Police initially confirmed one death and said the second occupant was missing. However, after lengthy and complex recovery operations to remove the wreckage embedded in the roof, both occupants were confirmed dead. The victims, aged 65 and 77, were from Bremen. According to preliminary findings, the aircraft had departed from Bremen and made a brief stop at the Ganderkesee airfield before taking off again. Around six minutes later, it reportedly lost altitude and crashed into the residential building.
The impact completely destroyed the aircraft’s cockpit and tore off both wings, with wreckage strewn across the property. The house’s occupants escaped tragedy, as the family living there was away at the time of the crash. Residents of nearby homes were evacuated during the recovery operation but were later allowed to return after the wreckage was removed. Authorities launched an investigation to determine what caused the aircraft to lose altitude and crash. Investigators are examining the wreckage and collecting evidence to establish the circumstances leading up to the accident.
