The pair combined to deliver an unbeaten performance in the Mixed Doubles, setting up a title clash against unbeaten league leaders Dempo Goa Challengers. Hursey featured in six games across the Women’s Singles and Mixed Doubles categories, winning five. At the same time, captain Manush maintained a perfect record, claiming wins in all five games he contested across two matches.
The result brings the season full circle, with the final all set to be a repeat of the tournament opener between Goa and U Mumba. Kolkata began well as Romanian international Eduard Ionescu beat Lilian Bardet in a closely fought three-game encounter. Ionescu won the opening two games 11-9 and 11-10 before Bardet fought back to take the third, giving the ThunderBlades an early 2-1 lead. Hursey brought the defending champions back on level terms with a composed win against Ayhika Mukherjee. The Welsh paddler won the first two games before Ayhika fought back in the third, leaving the tie locked at 3-all heading into the crucial Mixed Doubles clash. U Mumba took full control from that point onwards as Manush and Hursey beat Ankur Bhattacharjee and Ayhika in straight games to bag their fifth successive victory. The pair conceded just 14 points in the final two games, giving the defending champions a commanding 6-3 lead.
Needing just two more games to book their place in the final, Manush delivered another skipper’s performance against Ankur. The Indian international won 11-7, 11-5 to maintain his unbeaten record on the night and guide the defending champions into their second consecutive UTT final, where they will face fellow former champions Dempo Goa Challengers. All UTT Season 7 matches will be live on Star Sports Khel (Hindi), Star Sports Tamil 2 HD and Star Sports Tamil 3 HD, and streamed live on JioHotstar in Hindi, Tamil and English.
