Sachin came through a stern test to book his place in the men’s 60kg pre-quarterfinals, while India’s women’s bowls pair continued their brilliant run by making it three victories from three. It was a mixed day for India, with Putul Sonowal suffering his first defeat of the competition, while swimmers Dhakshan Shashikumar and Aryan Nehra, along with the women’s wheelchair 3×3 basketball team, endured disappointing outings. Sachin Siwach Advances to Round of 16 After Gritty Win Over Al-Ahmadieh Sachin advanced to the Round of 16 with a 4-1 split-decision victory over Al-Ahmadieh. The former made a strong start, winning four judges’ scorecards in the opening round before taking control with another brilliant display in the second. Al-Ahmadieh mounted a spirited fightback in the final round, but Sachin’s early dominance proved enough to earn him a 4-1 split-decision win and keep his campaign alive.
Sachin will next face England’s William Hewitt in the pre-quarterfinals, with a place in the last eight at stake. Putul Sonowal Suffers First Defeat as India’s Unbeaten Lawn Bowls Run Ends India’s undefeated run in lawn bowls at the CWG 2026 came to an end on Saturday as Asian champion Putul Sonowal suffered a straight-sets loss to Malaysia’s Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple in the men’s singles competition. Sonowal suffered his first defeat of the campaign, going down 8-4, 9-8 to unbeaten Malaysian Dzulkeple in Section D. The loss also ended India’s unbeaten run in bowls at the Games. After two dramatic comeback victories, including tie-break wins against Ryan Bester and Cecil Alexander, Sonowal fell short against the composed Dzulkeple. Dzulkeple took the opening set 8-4 despite Sonowal closing the gap to 4-3. The Indian fought back again in the second set after trailing 0-3, using a tactical timeout before reducing the deficit to 8-9.
