A mass youth movement in Delhi demanding accountability over paper leaks and educational crises culminated in the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan after 49 days of continuous protests. Originating at Jantar Mantar on June 6, the Gen Z-led demonstration escalated significantly after climate activist Sonam Wangchuk joined on an indefinite hunger strike before being removed by Delhi Police to Safdarjung Hospital.
Security forces deployed tear gas and batons to disperse thousands of demonstrators who breached barricades near Raisina Road, Connaught Place, and Parliament. Political tensions heightened when opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Akhilesh Yadav were detained during a flash protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence at Lok Kalyan Marg. Protesters, including youth campaign face Abhijeet Dipke, maintained that the agitation was a battle for justice regarding paper leak scandals and student suicides.
Despite police assertions of professional crowd handling, persistent demonstrations forced government talks and ultimately led to Pradhan’s resignation.
