The Cyberabad Traffic Police have directed officers to undertake a review of U-turns, expedite pending road infrastructure works and restore 91 non-functional Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) cameras as part of a series of measures aimed at improving traffic management. The directions were issued during a traffic review meeting chaired by Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sunpreet Singh, through video conference on Saturday. Senior traffic officers were instructed to coordinate with zonal commissioners and other stakeholder departments to ensure the early completion of all pending works.
They were also asked to review each pending project, identify reasons for delays and initiate corrective measures to speed up execution. Traffic officers have been directed to conduct a comprehensive study of all U-turn locations and submit detailed reports identifying stretches where bollards or channelising devices are required, U-turns that can be closed and locations where closely spaced U-turns should be retained or removed based on traffic demand and operational feasibility.
Officials have also been instructed to assess free left-turn locations and recommend suitable engineering and traffic management solutions to eliminate bottlenecks affecting free movement. To strengthen traffic surveillance, traffic DCPs have been asked to coordinate with maintenance agencies and the internet service provider, ACT Fibernet, to restore 91 non-functional ITMS cameras at the earliest. Traffic police have also been directed to follow up with IT companies to obtain vehicle movement data for traffic management planning.
In a move to strengthen enforcement against drunken driving, all Traffic Station House Officers have been instructed to coordinate with the Transport Department to initiate cancellation of driving licences in eligible drunken driving cases and submit compliance reports.
