Following Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation, the government is set to introduce the Public Examination Prevention of Unfair Means Amendment Bill 2026 in Parliament on Monday. Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, Dr. Jitendra Singh, will move the bill following forty-nine days of student protests over NEET paper leaks.
The proposed legislation seeks to amend the 2024 Act, raising maximum imprisonment for unfair means from five to ten years and increasing fines from 10 lakh to 50 lakh rupees. Meanwhile, student agitators at Jantar Mantar have begun calling off their protest and vacating the site as police remain on standby.
