The Kerala government has reconstituted the Syndicate of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam—the highest executive body of the university. The 15-member panel includes Muvattupuzha MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan and eight representatives from the higher education sector, including a woman member.
The Syndicate also has representatives of college teachers, principals, and research scholars. The reconstitution comes nearly two months after the new United Democratic Front (UDF) government assumed
office. The delay in reconstituting the syndicate had triggered discontent among pro-UDF sections within the university, particularly as the absence of a functional Syndicate had stalled several
key academic and administrative decisions. The reconstitution of the Syndicate is expected to bring an end to the administrative paralysis that has plagued the university in recent weeks.
