A total of 1,60,265 cases were settled in Chamarajanagar district during the second Lok Adalat and a subsequent Special Lok Adalat, resulting in the recovery of ₹29.60 crore, Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) G. Prabhavathi said on Saturday. Addressing a press conference, Ms. Prabhavathi said the Lok Adalat, organised on July 11 by the DLSA and the Taluk Legal Services Committees at Gundlupet, Kollegal and Yelandur, disposed of 1,60,232 cases, including 4,602 pending court cases and 1,55,630 pre-litigation cases.
She said ₹12.65 crore was recovered through court cases and ₹16.24 crore through pre-litigation settlements, taking the total recovery under the Lok Adalat to ₹28.89 crore. A Special Lok Adalat held on July 18 settled 33 cheque bounce cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, recovering an additional ₹71.41 lakh. With this, the total recovery rose to ₹29.60 crore from 1,60,265 cases.
Prabhavathi said several cases pending for 10 to 15 years were resolved during the Lok Adalat. The settled matters included 13 family disputes, three maintenance cases between spouses, and eight cases involving senior citizens. She announced that the next Lok Adalat will be held on September 12. She said the DLSA has been conducting extensive awareness programmes to encourage people to opt for Lok Adalats, leading to a steady increase in the number of settlements each year.
Senior Civil Judge and DLSA Member Secretary Eshwar was also present.
