(PTI/ANI) As Jantar Mantar protesters hailed the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan as the Union Education Minister on Saturday as “victory", the parents of Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), were in tears on hearing the news. For them, it meant a sigh of relief. Speaking after Pradhan stepped down, Dipke’s mother, Anita, told News18 Marathi that the family had lived in constant fear throughout the protests, especially after their son left the United States to spearhead the movement. “When Abhijeet returned from the United States, he was deeply worried about what would happen to the movement. These are tears of joy," she said. The student-led protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination, which lasted for more than a month drew nationwide attention and showcased what many described as a new style of activism led by Gen Z. For the past month, we lived in constant fear. I could barely sleep and was afraid to even pick up my phone.

Every disturbing video on social media made me anxious. I would keep calling Abhijeet’s friends to ask if he was safe, and they would reassure me," she said. She described the resignation as a victory for the CJP and students across the country. “The government has bowed before the struggle of students. This is a true victory for their movement. I just want Abhijeet to come home as soon as possible. If he doesn’t return from Delhi, we will go there to bring him back. When he comes home, I will embrace him tightly and welcome him," she said. Dipke’s father, Bhagwanrao, also welcomed the resignation. “We had no experience in politics, so naturally we were worried. Pradhan showed generosity by stepping down," he said. Asked whether his son should now enter politics, Dipke’s father said Abhijeet had worked with Arvind Kejriwal for two years and had seen politics from close quarters. “It is too early to say what he will do next. But as a father, it is my duty to stand by him, whatever path he chooses," he said. However, Dipke’s mother ruled out the possibility of her son joining active politics.
