Police in Alaska are investigating after human remains were discovered inside a chest freezer at a property in Juneau while relatives were clearing the home following the death of a family member.According to the Juneau Police release, officers were called to a residence in the 6500 block of Glacier Highway at about 7:59pm on 19 July after a family member reported finding what appeared to be human remains inside a locked outbuilding on the property.Responding officers confirmed the presence of deceased human remains, police said.Investigators have made a preliminary identification and believe the remains may belong to an adult male member of the family.Police said the next of kin has been notified, but a formal identification will be made by the State Medical Examiner's Office.Authorities said it is not known how long the remains had been stored in the freezer. Detectives also established that no missing person's report relating to the deceased had ever been filed with the Juneau Police Department.The remains have been transferred to the State Medical Examiner's Office, where an autopsy will be carried out to confirm the individual's identity and determine the cause and manner of death, according to police.Police said there is no known threat to the public at this stage. The investigation remains ongoing.
