Punjab Police has secured the return of fugitive gangster Jobanjit Singh, alias Joban Billa, from Indonesia after a si month international manhunt, marking a major success in its crackdown on organised crime with cross-border links, officials said. The accused, who had been evading arrest while moving across multiple countries, was deported from Jakarta and brought back to Punjab in a coordinated operation involving the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) Punjab, and central agencies, the police said. According to authorities, Jobanjit Singh is wanted in several serious criminal cases, including four murder cases registered in Punjab. He also faces charges related to attempt to murder, offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the Arms Act. Punjab Police further said that he had managed to remain beyond the reach of law enforcement by operating from different countries. "Wanted in multiple heinous criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder, NDPS Act and Arms Act offences, the accused was evading arrest by operating across multiple countries. He is wanted in four murder cases registered in Punjab," the senior cop added.

OPERATION NOMAD HUNT The operation, codenamed Operation Nomad Hunt, followed six months of intelligence gathering, surveillance and coordination with national and international agencies. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the successful deportation highlights the state's resolve to pursue fugitives hiding abroad and dismantle transnational organised crime networks. He said Punjab Police would continue to ensure that wanted criminals are brought back to face the law, irrespective of where they take shelter. The latest development comes days after another breakthrough by the AGTF, which, in coordination with the Haryana Special Task Force and central agencies, tracked down and arrested two wanted gangsters in Angola under a separate operation named Long Arm.
