(PTI) Due to heightened security arrangements amid the ongoing student protests near Jantar Mantar, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Friday announced that 18 Metro stations will remain closed from 7:30 AM on Saturday, July 25, 2026, until further instructions. In a post on X, the DMRC said the affected stations are Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhambha Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, Shivaji Stadium, Jhandewalan and New Delhi.

The DMRC said interchange facilities will remain available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat despite the station closures. The corporation also announced that train services on the Airport Express Line will only be available between Dhaula Kuan and Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25. “Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted," the DMRC said. Security measures have been stepped up across central Delhi ahead of the weekend, prompting fresh restrictions as authorities anticipate large gatherings amid the ongoing protests over the alleged NEET paper leak. The metro curbs mark the fourth straight day of such restrictions in the national capital. The continued closure of several metro stations has affected daily commuting in central Delhi, with office-goers, students and lawyers turning to road transport as an alternative. Social Media Reacts The DMRC’s announcement drew sharp reactions from commuters on X, many of whom complained of severe inconvenience caused by the closures.

One user questioned the shutdown of New Delhi Metro station, saying it serves “lakhs of public everyday" travelling to the New Delhi Railway Station and asked, “Are you even snatching the right of movement given by Article 19 of the Constitution?" Another user wondered how the metro would recover the losses caused by the station closures and claimed waiting time at other stations had increased to 30 minutes. A commuter travelling to Rajiv Chowk said passengers were being diverted via Karol Bagh because of the closures, calling it a “major inconvenience for thousands of office-going persons" and urging the DMRC to restore normal services. Another user asked, “How to reach the office? Do you provide any alternative mode?" while a commuter claimed they missed a train after boarding at Kashmere Gate for New Delhi, alleging there were no announcements about the restrictions either on the platform or inside the train, and described the situation as “completely chaos" with people suffering.
