(X) A search and rescue operation is underway on the Pindari Glacier trekking route in Uttarakhand’s Bageshwar district after a trekker from Noida went missing while returning from the trail, officials said on Sunday. The missing trekker has been identified as Vishesh Chauhan.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was alerted by the Kapkot police station on the night of May 29 after Chauhan failed to return to the base as scheduled. Officials said Chauhan had undertaken the trek to Pindari Glacier with a local porter. The two became separated during the return journey, following which Chauhan could not be located, prompting authorities to seek SDRF assistance. An SDRF team headed by Head Constable Teeka Singh Karki, along with local police personnel, was subsequently deployed to the area to begin search operations. During the mission, rescuers descended approximately 60 to 70 metres at a location identified by the guide, using rope rescue equipment to access the difficult terrain.
Although Chauhan has not yet been found, the team recovered his camera from the search site. The operation was then expanded along the banks of the Pinder River and nearby forested areas, officials said. Search efforts were temporarily halted on Saturday because of heavy rain and poor weather conditions in the region. The operation resumed on Sunday after conditions improved slightly, with teams continuing efforts to locate the missing trekker.
