In a post on X, Gandhi used the phrase “Beware of pickpockets – today they’re sitting inside CBSE" as he questioned the fees charged to students seeking verification of their marks. He claimed that if marks are incorrectly awarded due to a CBSE error, students are required to pay for access to their answer sheets and for the review process. According to Gandhi, the charges include Rs 100 per subject for a digital scan copy, Rs 100 per paper for re-totalling, and Rs 25 per question for re-evaluation.

He also criticised the evaluation system, claiming that errors were inevitable when answer sheets were scanned using mobile phones. He argued that students were being made to bear the financial burden of correcting mistakes made during the assessment process. “The mistake is CBSE’s. The punishment is the child’s. The earnings are the government’s," Rahul Gandhi said. Accusing authorities of commercialising education, the Congress leader said, “When education is turned from a service into a business, mistakes aren’t corrected.
They’re multiplied. And our children are paying the steepest price for it – with their time, their self-confidence, and their future." Rahul Gandhi on Sunday intensified his criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the CBSE OSM controversy, alleging that the concerns of 18.5 lakh students affected by irregularities in the board’s answer-sheet scanning process were being ignored. In a post on X, Gandhi contrasted the Prime Minister’s remarks during his monthly Mann Ki Baat programme with what he described as silence on the issue involving students whose answer sheets were allegedly not assessed correctly. “This morning, the Prime Minister had time to speak about mangoes. He has not had time to speak about 18.5 lakh children whose answer sheets were scanned with phones. Dharmendra Pradhan ji still sits in office. Modi ji’s silence is no longer indifference. It is complicity," Gandhi wrote. The Congress leader also shared a video of his interaction with a group of students and commended them for speaking out about the controversy. “Vedant and his friends are brilliant, brave young Indians who asked CBSE and the Modi govt simple questions – but got insults instead of answers," he said.
The controversy began after Vedant, a Class 12 student, alleged in a post on X that the Physics answer sheet uploaded by the CBSE as part of its copy-scanning process was not his. The claim quickly gained attention online, with several other students posting similar allegations on social media.
