The teenagers were unaware of the depth of the reservoir and the strength of the current. Shortly after stepping into the water, they reportedly lost their footing and were pulled into deeper sections of the dam. As the two began to drown, their friends raised an alarm and called for help.
Local residents rushed to the spot and attempted to assist before rescue teams and officials from the local administration arrived and launched a search operation, according to several media reports. After hours of searching, rescuers recovered the body of Sanket Kharat. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination. The search for Aniket Bharti continued late into Sunday night, but officials were yet to locate him. Rescue operations are still underway.
