NTA Overhaul Begins: 47 Officials Removed As Modi Govt Launches Major Education Reforms

The Centre has initiated a massive overhaul of the Testing Agency following recurring paper leaks and operational failures in major national entrance examinations like NEET UG, JEE Mains, and CUET. In a major crackdown aimed at fixing accountability and restoring public faith, 47 officials associated with the Ministry of Education and the NTA have been terminated or shunted out, with legal and criminal action planned against several of them.
The decision follows recommendations from an expert committee set up to reform the examination system and discussions in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The restructuring plans to end reliance on heavy outsourcing and third-party vendors, addressing severe accountability gaps caused by lean permanent staffing. Over the next 30 days, the government aims to establish a dedicated, leak-proof mechanism and restructure the NTA into a fully revamped body with robust checks and balances for national entrance tests.
