(Image: PTI) Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries Ravneet Singh Bittu has resigned from the Union Council of Ministers on Friday amid speculation that he may contest the Punjab Assembly elections next year. President Droupadi Murmu on Friday accepted the Punjab BJP leader’s resignation with immediate effect, the Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a statement.

“The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has accepted the resignation of Shri Ravneet Singh from the Union Council of Ministers, with immediate effect, under clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution of India," the statement read. While no official reason has been cited for his exit, the move comes against the backdrop of growing buzz over his possible return to active state politics ahead of the Punjab Assembly polls. Buzz Over Bittu’s Return To Punjab Politics The BJP leader’s tenure as a Rajya Sabha MP had already ended in June. Bittu had been a member of the Union Council of Ministers since 2024.

The grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, he joined the BJP in 2024 after leaving the Congress and unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha elections that year. He was later nominated to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan to serve the remainder of the term vacated by Congress leader KC Venugopal.
