15 Killed After Suicide Bomber Targets Security Checkpoint In Pakistan Published By, Last Updated: July 24, 2026, 20:06 IST A suicide attack on a joint military-police checkpoint in Pakistan's Tank district left 15 dead, prompting security forces to kill 12 militants in a retaliatory operation. Image from the site A deadly suicide bombing at a security checkpoint in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province left 15 people dead, including 12 soldiers, the military said on Friday. It added that troops later killed 12 militants during a counter-operation. According to the army, the attackers targeted the Manji Khel checkpoint in Tank district, close to the Afghan border, during the night.
The post is jointly manned by military personnel and police officers. The military said the militants initially attempted to force their way into the checkpoint. When they failed to enter, one of them drove a vehicle packed with explosives into the outer perimeter, triggering a powerful blast. The incident is the latest in a series of militant attacks reported from Pakistan’s northwestern region, where violence has increased in recent months. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), commonly known as the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement, the group said four suicide bombers were involved. The TTP has been carrying out attacks against the Pakistani government since 2007.
The group says it wants to replace the country’s existing system with its own strict interpretation of Islamic law. Pakistan has long accused militants of crossing into the country from safe havens in neighbouring Afghanistan after planning and preparing attacks there. The Taliban administration in Kabul has denied those claims, insisting that Pakistan’s security challenges are an internal matter.
