As the Central government intensifies efforts to strengthen the country’s examination system, the Testing Agency (NTA) on Friday sacked 47 officials, sources in the Education Ministry said. Disciplinary action is also expected to be initiated against some of the sacked officials as the government steps up efforts to enforce accountability within the agency, sources said.

More reform measures are expected to follow. The move is part of a comprehensive overhaul of the NTA, which has been embroiled in controversy over alleged examination paper leaks. A complete restructuring of the agency is on the cards and is expected to be carried out over the next month. Changes Likely In Outsourcing Model A key focus of the overhaul will be the NTA’s outsourcing framework for examination-related work. According to sources, the government plans to revamp the agency’s outsourcing processes to enhance oversight, strengthen accountability and plug vulnerabilities in the conduct of examinations. The reforms will be implemented based on the recommendations of an expert committee, with the objective of creating a robust and leak-proof examination system.

Focus On Leak-Proof System Amid outrage over the paper leak incidents, the government plans to introduce sweeping structural and technological reforms to build a leak-proof examination ecosystem while enhancing transparency, accountability and operational efficiency across the agency. The planned reforms follow sustained criticism of the NTA in the wake of the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, which triggered nationwide outrage and intensified calls for a stronger and more secure examination framework. The proposed revamp is expected to reshape the agency’s functioning, with the Centre seeking to reinforce safeguards, improve institutional accountability and restore public confidence in the conduct of national-level entrance examinations.
