The Thrissur district administration has urged the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) to conduct a detailed scientific study into the recurring underground rumblings reported from Peechi and to install additional seismographs in the area to monitor the phenomenon.
District Collector Shikha Surendran said the request was made following repeated ground movements and unusual subterranean sounds reported from different parts of Peechi in recent days. The Collector visited houses that developed cracks after the incidents and said a proposal had been submitted to the State government seeking compensation for the affected families.
She also directed panchayat and village officials to distribute information leaflets explaining the precautions residents should take in the event of further ground movement. Unusual underground sounds
and tremors have been reported from several parts of Peechi, prompting concern among local residents and leading the district administration to step up monitoring and preparedness measures.
