Director General of Police C.V. Anand on Friday directed the police units across Telangana to strengthen the use of technology in combating cyber crime and improve the State’s performance across key cyber security benchmarks prescribed by the Union government. Reviewing the implementation of cyber security initiatives, e-Zero FIR and the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) through a video conference with officers from all police units, the DGP said Telangana Police must remain ahead in technology to effectively tackle the growing threat of cyber fraud.
DGP Anand said the Prime Minister’s PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) platform regularly monitored the progress of key governance initiatives, while the Union government had expressed concern over the increasing incidence of cyber fraud, particularly “digital arrest” scams. He said the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs periodically assessed the cyber security preparedness of States based on nine key performance indicators (KPIs).
He directed officers to improve Telangana’s performance across all the parameters and work towards securing a higher position in the national rankings. Reviewing the State’s current performance, Mr. Anand said Telangana was ranked 13th in e-Zero FIR implementation, 18th in money restoration with a recovery rate of 46.6%, fourth in the Grievance Redressal Mechanism (GRM), 16th in the Sahayog portal, sixth in the Samanvaya portal, 16th in social media-related performance, 15th in cyber security parameters and eighth in capacity building.
The review meeting was attended by Telangana Cyber Security Bureau Director Shikha Goel, T-SPARK SP Rupesh, SP (Cyber Security) Sai Sri and senior police officers from various units across the State.
