The Telangana Food Safety Department seized 110 kg of sev and 40 litres of cooking oil from a food manufacturing unit in Karmanghat, Hyderabad, during an inspection on Friday (July 24) after officials detected multiple food safety and hygiene violations.
According to the department, Food Safety Officers inspected M/s Ashoksingh Foods and found that the establishment was manufacturing sev despite holding only a retailer registration obtained through the Tatkal registration process. The department said that the unit had declared itself as a retailer while obtaining the registration instead of registering as a manufacturer.
The inspection also revealed several violations, including the suspected use of synthetic food colours, repeated use of cooking oil, unsafe food handling practices and poor sanitation at the premises. Officials collected samples of the cooking oil and sev for laboratory analysis and carried out the seizure under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Further action would be initiated based on the laboratory analysis of the samples.
