(Representational pic/PTI) What was intended as a brief reprieve from the pressures of medical entrance preparation turned into a horrific ordeal when a 19-year-old NEET aspirant was allegedly gang-raped by three men in the scenic Devangana Valley of Uttar Pradesh’s Chitrakoot district. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, approximately 12 km from the district headquarters.
According to police, the young woman—a resident of Madhya Pradesh’s Satna district who is currently pursuing coaching in Kota, Rajasthan—had recently come to Chitrakoot to visit relatives. She had gone to the valley on a motorcycle with her 17-year-old friend, a Class 12 student from Chitrakoot. The couple had moved towards a secluded part of the hill when three unidentified men arrived on another motorcycle, falsely claiming to be forest department personnel. Ambushed and Restrained The confrontation quickly escalated into violence. According to the victim’s statement, the men attacked the teenage boy with a belt to prevent him from intervening, tied his hands and feet with a towel, and left him restrained. The attackers then dragged the young woman into nearby bushes, where they sexually assaulted her. Due to the secluded location and poor mobile network coverage, the couple was unable to call for help immediately.
The teenager eventually managed to untie himself, moved downhill until he found mobile coverage, and alerted emergency services. A police response team arrived shortly after and rushed both victims to the hospital. The boy was discharged following preliminary treatment, while the young woman underwent a mandatory medical examination. Investigation Underway Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including section 70 (gang rape). “In her statement, the victim mentioned gang rape," said Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar Singh. “Because her friend is a minor, he will also undergo a medical examination.
