The heavyweight judoka has been handed the provisional suspension after recording three whereabouts failures within a 12-month period, making her ineligible to compete while the matter remains under process.

Provisional Suspension Ends CWG Hopes Maan, who claimed a silver medal in the women’s +78kg category at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, was regarded as one of India’s strongest medal contenders in Glasgow. A member of the Indian judo coaching staff confirmed that she would no longer be part of the travelling squad. “She has committed three whereabouts failures in a 12-month period and NADA has sent notice to her. So, she will be withdrawn from the team," a judo coach told PTI on condition of anonymity. Under anti-doping regulations, athletes included in the registered testing pool are required to regularly provide accurate whereabouts information to facilitate unannounced out-of-competition testing. Three whereabouts failures within a 12-month period can constitute an anti-doping rule violation.

Second Judo Setback For India Maan’s withdrawal comes just days after another setback for the Indian judo contingent. On Thursday, Arun Kumar, who was set to compete in the men’s -73kg category, was also removed from the Commonwealth Games squad after failing an out-of-competition doping test. The twin withdrawals have dealt a significant blow to India’s medal prospects in judo ahead of the Games. Judokas Yet To Depart Unlike several other Indian contingents already in Glasgow, the judo team has not yet travelled to Scotland because competition in the sport begins on July 31. The squad is scheduled to leave India on July 27.
