Tamil television actor Anandhi Ajay broke down in an emotional video after learning that her scenes had been removed from Jana Nayagan, Thalapathy Vijay's much-awaited swansong. The clip, which has gone viral on social media, shows Anandhi in tears as she speaks about losing what she believed was a career-defining opportunity. According to Anandhi, she had been associated with the film for nearly a year and had been looking forward to sharing screen space with Vijay. Her reaction came as Jana Nayagan opened to strong numbers at the box office, even as it remained below the first-day figures of Vijay's earlier blockbusters. Meanwhile, Jana Nayagan registered a strong opening at the box office. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film earned an estimated Rs 41 crore nett in India on its opening day across 13,067 shows, taking its India gross to Rs 48.27 crore. Overseas, it collected around Rs 30 crore, pushing its worldwide gross to Rs 78.27 crore. The Tamil version contributed the bulk of the collections with Rs 36.5 crore, while the Telugu version brought in Rs 2.75 crore and the Hindi version added Rs 1.75 crore.
Despite the strong opening, the film fell short of the first-day collections of Vijay's previous blockbusters. Beast had opened at Rs 49.3 crore, while The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) had collected Rs 44 crore on day one. Directed by H Vinoth and backed by KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay alongside Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. Mounted on a reported budget of Rs 500 crore, the film has been positioned as Vijay's farewell to cinema before his full-time transition into politics, even as Anandhi's emotional video has drawn attention alongside its opening-day performance.
