A Private Member's Bill seeking to abolish the Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) for medical and dental admissions and allow states to frame their own admission procedures has been listed for introduction in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. The Bill, moved by Rajya Sabha MP P Wilson, has been listed as Serial Number 16 in the day's business. Wilson announced the development in a post on X, saying the proposed legislation would enable states to opt out of NEET and devise their own admission mechanisms if it becomes law.

If enacted, it would allow state governments to obtain exemption from NEET and formulate admission procedures in line with their own policies and requirements. “If this Bill becomes law, then the States are at liberty to opt out of NEET and devise their own admission procedures for Dental and Medical courses,” the X post said.
The proposal comes amid continuing political debate over NEET, particularly in Tamil Nadu, where the examination has long faced opposition from the ruling DMK and several regional parties.
