According to the publication, Iranian and Iraqi officials said Tehran rejected the proposal on Thursday after Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi travelled to Iran, days after meeting Trump at the White House. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the mediation effort failed as Trump was also threatening to step up military action against Iran.

Tensions Continue To Rise The reported rejection comes as the US and Iran continue to exchange attacks after hostilities resumed in recent weeks, ending a short-lived ceasefire. On Wednesday, Trump warned that the US would bomb Iranian civilian infrastructure if Tehran continued attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

He said the US would target “one bridge or power plant" every time Iran fired missiles, rockets or drones at ships in the strategic waterway. Trump added that facilities in or near the Iranian capital, Tehran, could also be targeted.
