Violence erupted near Delhi's Jantar Mantar late on July 22 as protests escalated into clashes with police. Stone-pelting left a Delhi ACP with a head injury, while another police inspector alleged he was overpowered and assaulted while trying to rescue an injured colleague. Police responded with a lathi charge to disperse the crowd, and several vehicles were vandalised.
Meanwhile, senior Delhi Police officer Sandeep Lamba, who faced criticism after allegedly slapping a woman protester during the July 20 Sansad Chalo march, has been removed from all security-related duties at Jantar Mantar.
