As repolling in the Falta Assembly seat inches closer in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Jahanagir Khan pulled out of the electoral race. Khan, considered a close aide of TMC's national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, announced his decision not to contest the election on Tuesday. The repolling in Falta seat is scheduled to take place on May 21. During the West Bengal Assembly elections, Khan made headlines following a controversy involving IPS officer Ajay Pal Sharma, who was serving as an Election Commission-appointed police observer in the state.
Notably, the Falta constituency is part of the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency. Abhishek Banerjee is is the incumbent MP. Reports claimed that the TMC's top leadership did not campaign in run up to the repoll.
